PRESCHOOL/TODDLER TEACHER
About the role
Preschool/Toddler Teacher, under Mabuhay-Montessori School Inc., reporting to the School Administrator and Executives. With their support and supervision, the teacher establishes and maintains a quality educational program that follows the Montessori philosophy and pedagogy — leading the classroom, safeguarding the children's safety and well-being, teaching and guiding assistant/substitute teachers, keeping accurate records, and communicating closely with families. Internal stakeholders are all Head Office departments; external stakeholders are clients, students, and partners.
Responsibilities
Classroom teaching & leadership
- Teach and supervise all students in the Montessori Method and curriculum across academic and specialty areas
- Prepare classroom materials and keep them clean and in good repair
- Plan and implement a classroom schedule with fair, equitable distribution of responsibilities among the adults
- Supervise, guide, and teach all assistant and substitute teachers in the Montessori method; co-lead teachers work cooperatively to achieve all responsibilities
- Assume leadership through appropriate, professional behavior at all times — in the building, during class and outdoor time, and in the surrounding neighborhood
Child safety & well-being
- Be responsible for the safety and physical well-being of all students at all times
- Report all accidents/incidents immediately with a written report (date, time, nature, action taken)
- Report unexplained injuries or suspected child abuse to the Education Director
- Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration training
- Relate joyfully to children and demonstrate emotional maturity and stability
Lesson planning & records
- Prepare weekly lesson plans and record students' progress
- Prepare and submit the weekly "Peek at the Week" summary to the School Administrator by Thursday noon
- Maintain current records (communication logs, conference summaries, observation notes), available on request and kept confidential; record observations using the school's required system
- Organize notes and write reports for outside agencies and receiving schools, plus timely end-of-year reports for eligible students
Communication, parents & meetings
- Address parent, team, and child issues immediately; proactively share Montessori and child-development knowledge with parents
- Maintain ongoing team communication and share weekly staff-meeting information with the team
- Return parent calls/texts same day, reply to emails within 24 hours, and check classroom messages twice daily
- Attend all staff and after-hour parent meetings, admissions events, and classroom socials
- Prepare and participate in parent conferences at least three times per school year (including two Parent Education / Town Hall sessions)
- Organize daily time for recordkeeping and meetings with co-teachers, the Administrator, and parents
Compliance & conduct
- Follow all school policies and the Employee Handbook / Rules and Regulations
- Follow all standards of the American Montessori Society, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health
- Perform additional duties as determined by the Education or Executive Directors
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of a Bachelor of Special Needs Education
- Experience: Previous experience teaching kindergarten, grade school, or students with special needs; Montessori teaching experience is an advantage but not required
